A former Everglades High wrestling coach was sentenced to 30 years in state prison Monday for sexually molesting a teenage girl at the school in 2007. Alain Cupas, 30, wept and put his head in his hands as Broward Judge Susan Lebow told him his fate.

Moments before, Cupas insisted he didn't do it and asked God to forgive the victim "for putting an innocent man in jail." "I would never do anything to hurt anybody," he said. "I've been the victim of a horrible, horrible crime here."

The girl, now 17, sat quietly shaking her head "no" as Cupas spoke.

Cupas, who was a security guard at the Miramar school by day, was convicted of three counts of lewd and lascivious conduct. Cupas claimed he was convicted on scant evidence. The jury disagreed, deciding he was guilty last month in less than an hour. Cupas, who was already in custody, will do his time at Florida State Prison. Lebow told Cupas he has 30 days to file an appeal.
